Act! Speak! Build! Week, April 16-22
Act! Speak! Build! week is a national Habitat for Humanity student initiated advocacy program that empowers young people to educate themselves and their communities and move people to social action.

Students plan and host events focused on ending poverty housing, targeting youth, community members, and others to raise the social consciousness on issues of poverty housing and to affect change in housing policy.

Participating schools will be recognized nationally and locally by Habitat for Humanity International and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.  They will also be eligible to win awards and prizes.

Nickels for Nails, October 1-19
Nickels for Nails is a fund drive inviting youth to work together to fund and build a home for a family in need of a simple, decent place to live.  The goal is to raise $100,000 for a home, making it 100% sponsored by youth.

   What can you do?

  • Place collection bins in classrooms
  • Collect spare change

Materials and supplies will be provided.  Participants will be eligible for prizes and will be acknowledged at the Habitat for Humanity Jimmy Carter Work Project 2007.

Collegiate Challenge
It only takes one week to change a life...
Collegiate Challenge is Habitat for Humanity’s year-round alternative break program that provides opportunities for students from youth groups, high schools and colleges to spend a week of their school break building a house in partnership with a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States.

A Collegiate Challenge trip may be the best school break trip you will ever have. Not only do you help people in need — it’s also fun! You’ll have the chance to improve your carpentry skills, connect with new people in a new place and put your faith into action by making a real difference in Habitat for Humanity’s work of eliminating substandard housing.

Seven reasons YOU should participate:

  • Improve your leadership skills.

  • Develop and strengthen friendships.

  • See the impact your work is having on communities.

  • Learn more about poverty housing issues and how you can help.

  • Visit new areas of the country

  • Affect a global cause by advocating on behalf of poverty housing issues.

  • Help provide a simple, decent, affordable place to live for people in need.

Collegiate Challenge Los Angeles 2007
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles will be hosting Collegiate Challenge groups during the summer months (April – August). As a participant this summer, your group
will be working alongside our wonderful volunteers and homeowners and helping us prepare to build and renovate nearly 100 homes during the Jimmy Carter Work Project 2007. Your assistance during your summer break will take us through the pre-build stages, most of which will include framing. We can't do it without you! Take a look at What You Need to Know for details on age restrictions, group limitations, cost and more. All participating groups must register through Habitat for Humanity of International by clicking on the link below.
